1. a desire to expose oneself to radiation in the hopes of changing one's DNA, because their genetics are potentially dangerous to their intelligence.

2. a riff of this quote: "Isn't there any way I can change my DNA, like sitting on the microwave?" featured in The Simpsons, episode Lisa the Simpson and spoken wisely by everyone’s favorite cartoon brainiac and sax player, Lisa.

Seriously, if you knew my family, you’d understand.

[info]sitonamicrowave is:

… a twenty-one-year-old university student with an uncertain future (whose isn't?), attending her first choice school, UC Berkeley. Her semester early graduation is on the lurch and on the one hand, she is supremely excited about this. On the other hand, she doesn't understand why her so-called first-class undergraduate education wasn't more academically challenging. She's really becoming quite disillusioned with the American education system, as a whole.

… mildly anti-social and extremely secretive, hence the friends-only journal. She wants to break out this habit, at least she sometimes pretends she does, but the effort required is so much more overwhelming than one might first think.

… a shit-talker, the other reason her journal is friends-only. Plus, she uses variations of real names and likes to catalogue not only her personal life, but the happenings of people in or around her life, as well.

… at a crossroads, where life is concerned. Almost out of college and she's just as fucking confused as she was at twelve. The world has not gotten any simpler as she has aged and, in fact, in many ways it has gotten more complicated. This was not a happy realization for her, but she's still holding out for things to get a little bit easier and a lot less fucking perplexing.

… sarcastic and often mistaken for mean, because her "honesty" knows no leaps and bounds. She's not really mean though and often times when it sounds like she is, it's because she's either a) thinking without speaking or b) thinking without feeling. Considering how she can be emotionally retarded, more often than not it's because of b.

… addicted to caffeine and nicotine, her two major vices in a long string of things she's been told are bad for her that she does anyway. These days, she smells like menthol smoke and ground coffee beans with some terrible fruit-y smell a la Bath and Body Works thrown in for amusement.

… in a bizarre relationship with a man five years her senior. Trust her, though, the age difference is the least of her worries with him; he's also her boss and a veritable Peter Pan. She's pretty sure she's in love with him, which has not done anything for her sanity, as it goes, especially since she apparently really knows how to pick them. In this case, it's a constant question of whether or not she's actually a masochist, the way she suspects she just might be. She'd prefer masochism, because the other choice is stupid - and no one wants to admit that they're stupid.

… a total stress case, for reals serious. She could probably be the poster child for Chronic Stress, even. No fucking joke. It's really a wonder she hasn't collapsed from sheer exhaustion already, at the rate she runs herself into the cement.

… rather bad at describing herself, because she's awkward not only in the physical realm, but also in every other media she tries her hand at. Except maybe talking; she's exceptionally good at talking. She can talk for hours, often about nothing and everything, but sometimes the awkwardness bleeds into even her conversational skills. It puts quite the damper on self-expression, for sure, her awkwardness, because it sneaks in at the most inconvenient times, she swears.

[info]sitonamicrowave writes:

… mostly about her everyday life, because even though it's basically boring as hell and lacking in carefree moments, she likes to record things, so to say, from the mundane to the exceptional to the in-between. You never know when you're going to need to recall some random fact, after all, and she is the best recaller of random facts, she is. Writing down her memories also gives her some time off from thinking about them, because she broods like you wouldn't believe.

… occasionally on social and political situations. She'd like to write a lot more about them, but she has a hard time articulating her feelings, just as she has a hard time expressing them, so instead of floundering for words, she just keeps those opinions to herself, until they explode in rant posts, often a jumble of junk with a bit of insight thrown in for flavor.

… fanfiction, though rarely anymore. She's not too confident in her fiction skills and has a much easier time just playing things out in her mind, without having to write anything down. She figures she's probably thought some great novels into existence, but no one will ever know, because she just can't articulate them. If interested in reading any of the nonsense she's written in the realm of fanfiction, you've got to sift through her memories here though, because she's not actually going to list any of her stuff, won't even point to some of it, because once they're out of her head, she doesn't really give them too much thought.

[info]sitonamicrowave reads:

… a bit of everything. She's currently on a fantasy kick, but of the clever sort, if that makes sense. She can't just read dime fantasy/sci-fi novels, unfortunately, there has to be some sort of substance. She's been on a Neil Gaiman and Christopher Moore kick lately, and she thinks soon she'll attempt her hand at reading the Discworld and Tolkein novels, though neither are particularly high on her reading list. It's a summer of light reading, she's decided though, so there you go.

… the New York Times on a semi-regular basis. Her favorite sections are the "Education" and "Arts" sections. She likes to peek at Op-Ed articles, too, not because she gives a damn about what any of the people are saying, but because sometimes what they don't say is done really well.

[info]sitonamicrowave's friending policy:

… isn't strict, really. If you friend her, she'll most likely friend you back. She just wants to have some idea of the people reading her – sometimes – innermost thoughts. Call it paranoia, because that's really the gist of it.

… will not friend anyone she knows outside the Internets, because that would be giving away all her secrets and that is just not on. She's worked very, very hard to attain her enigma persona and giving it up now would totally be giving in and she is many things, but not a quitter. So if you've manage to snoop out this journal and you're close to her or you know her, don't even bother making an effort at friending, you'll mostly like just get shot down, yo.

[info]sitonamicrowave's parting words:

ani difranco is a genius with language and music, kurt vonnegut was one (awesomely cranky) wise old white man, those on her friends list are way more interesting than she is (and cool like whoa), postsecret is the best anonymous idea ever, the existence of math is one that was invented just to spite her, and no one will ever compare to her mother, ever.
